Junior Malik Zaire (Kettering, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) picked up his seventh offer of the recruiting process on Monday when Nebraska offered the southpaw quarterback.
Zaire, a member of the ESPNU Watch List, has only talked to Nebraska a handful of times through email and Facebook, but the Huskers are already near the top of his list.
“OSU [Ohio State], Pitt and Nebraska are my favorites,” Zaire wrote in a text message.
Ohio State and Wisconsin were his longtime favorites, but the departure of Paul Chryst from Wisconsin to Pitt to become head coach shook up Zaire’s leaderboard. Pitt has yet to offer Zaire, though.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was at Zaire’s high school today, but the two spoke for only a brief minute.
“Just hi and bye and we’re real interested,” Zaire wrote of the conversation.
Later this month, Zaire will unofficially visit Ohio State for its basketball game against Michigan.
Zaire is planning to decide relatively early, as is the norm for a lot of quarterbacks.
He also holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana and Northwestern.
