McDonald to Gophers for second time

Four-star receiver Andre McDonald (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) was planning a signing day announcement, but he decided to end the drama early and made his choice Thursday evening.

McDonald committed to Minnesota on an announcement on a local Minnesota station. It is the second time he has committed to the Golden Gophers.

“It’s kind of funny but whenever my mom went to do her own thing and didn’t listen to him he would say to me ‘A lost dog always finds its way back home,’ and I think that just really sums up my entire recruiting process,” McDonald wrote in a text message.

The No. 2-ranked player in Minnesota, McDonald decommitted from Minnesota at the beginning of his senior season and committed to Vanderbilt. He decommitted from Vanderbilt in early January after his receiver coach left the Commodores.

McDonald officially visited Minnesota on Jan. 13 and came back from an official visit to UCLA on Monday.

The Gophers now have 28 commitments and arguably the Big Ten's best receiver combo of the Class of 2012 with McDonald (No. 37 among receivers) and Jamel Harbison (No. 32).
