Ohio tight end commits to Louisville

It did not take long for Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic tight end Keith Towbridge to realize Louisville is destined to be his future home. Towbridge visited Louisville on Tuesday and committed Thursday.

“I saw the campus and was like ‘wow,’” Towbridge said shortly after committing. “I had a chance to meet the coaches. They made my mom and me feel so good about going there. That’s when I thought in my mind [about committing].”

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Towbridge was on campus for the better part of Tuesday and was impressed with everything he saw.

“They showed me the weight room, the locker room, coaches room,” he said. “I watched film with the guys, got a chance to sit and watch the tight ends work through practice. They use the tight end a lot, so that’s a plus.

Former Louisville tight end Josh Chichester is a likely NFL draft pick, and following him has Towbridge intrigued. It also means the tight end position should be pretty wide open when he arrives in 2013.

“They told me I have the chance to compete for early playing time,” Towbridge said. “They like my hands. I can split out wide. They just want me to get bigger and stronger.”

In an interview less than a month ago, Towbridge was still gathering information on schools and did not have a leaderboard or any favorites. He even surprised himself by his early commitment.

“I thought I’d make a decision in July,” he said. “It’s just a lot of stress on my shoulders, and I got it off so now I can focus on getting stronger and improving on my bad habits. It’s great right now.”

Bowling Green, Illinois, Nebraska and Toledo also offered Towbridge, who is the Cardinals' fifth commitment in the 2013 class.
