With not much film at quarterback, 2013 quarterback Peter Pujals (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) is still in the process of attracting FBS schools. Still, even with only a handful of snaps at the position, the Chicago-area signal-caller already has an offer.
Eastern Illinois offered Pujals, who also has interest from several Ivy League programs.
If everything he remains the same, he is not sure if he would go to an Ivy League school instead of another FCS program.
“I’ll have to wait and see how the season comes along,” he said. “Going to a great school might outweigh [a non-Ivy school]. I don’t know. I’m looking at all different angles.”
As a junior, Pujals started at receiver as Loyola had a senior quarterback. As a sophomore and a junior, Pujals saw time at quarterback, but 2012 will be his first season as the unquestioned starter.
Though successful on the outside catching passes, Pujals is most comfortable throwing the ball instead of hauling it in.
“I’m not good at giving myself compliments, but I think I have a natural knack for passing and distributing the ball,” he said. “It always felt natural playing quarterback. I like being in command, like being in charge of the offense.”
One thing the 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback is working on is his running game. He hopes to become more comfortable tucking the ball and running when a play breaks down.
