In the season opener, Enoch Smith (Chicago/Mount Carmel) was able to play at Soldier Field. This weekend, he was back to see Notre Dame take on Miami (Fla.).
Even though it was not a home game for the Fighting Irish, Smith was impressed with Notre Dame. The ESPN Watch List defensive tackle has an Irish offer, and his experience Saturday has the Irish right at the top of his list.
“By going to the game yesterday and playing against a great team like Miami and dominating on both sides of the ball, that was a real eye opener,” Smith said. “Thinking about Notre Dame, [the game] gives me the opportunity to focus more on them and gave me a better opinion on Notre Dame.”
The 6-foot-2, 256-pound lineman has eight offers, and the Irish are at the top with Cincinnati, Illinois and Purdue.
“I would say they’re one of the front-runners by their performance yesterday and the academics -- you’re a student-athlete,” he said. “They’re definitely the front-runners.”
Saturday was the latest in a run of games where the Notre Dame defense has excelled, and Smith came away extremely impressed with the defensive line.
“They’re very dominant. They controlled the defensive side, pressured the quarterback, forced the offensive line to do whatever they wanted,” Smith said. “They took control of the game defensively.”
