Jeff Jones might be the headliner of the two Minneapolis Washburn running backs to visit Iowa on Saturday, but that does not mean the Hawkeyes were not happy to see Raymonte Maynard, too. The junior did average more than 10 yards per carry this past season.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back and Jones’ teammate, Maynard rushed 78 times for 1,108 yards and 13 touchdowns this past season. The Hawkeyes are one of several teams interested in Maynard, who is also hearing from Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri and Northern Illinois.
Saturday was his second time visiting Iowa City.
“I like their fans, everybody was wild, everybody was loving the game, and I like the team even though they have a lot of people injured,” Maynard said. “They have good offensive linemen so I can see myself running behind them.
Maynard spoke with Hawkeyes running back coach Lester Erb and Eric Johnson while on the visit.
“Basically they said they were interested in me and would talk to me more when the season is over and talk about maybe offering,” Maynard said.
