Chris Frey makes seventh visit to VaTech

Although Virginia Tech has not offered, junior outside linebacker Chris Frey (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) could not be higher on the Hokies program. He made the trip to Blacksburg, Va., for Thursday night’s game, his seventh visit to Virginia Tech.

It was his first time seeing a game on the Virginia Tech campus, however. He missed seeing the spring game as it was rained out.

“Since I started coming down here I always wanted to go to a game,” Frey said. “It was an amazing atmosphere. There wasn’t very many recruits, which was good because it gave us more time with the coaches. ‘Enter Sandman’ before the game was a crazy thing to see.

“It was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to make it back for the junior day in February.”

Akron, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Toledo all offered Frey before the season, and more teams are waiting to see Frey’s final cut of his junior highlights. He led Upper Arlington with 126 tackles playing inside linebacker, safety and defensive end this season.

At 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, several teams -- Virginia Tech among them -- are still trying to figure out the position for which Frey will be best suited at the collegiate level.

“I think what’s going to happen is [Virginia Tech is] going to wait until after the season and then they’ll tell me what’s going on, Frey said. “My biggest thing with colleges is my size. I’m right between a linebacker and a safety. I think that’s making a lot of colleges hesitate.”

Cincinnati, Duke, Louisville and Michigan State are a few teams in addition to the Hokies that are showing serious interest in Frey, and he will visit Boston College for its game against Virginia Tech on Nov. 17.
