Ole Miss impresses 4-star DE Elijah Daniel

ESPN 150 defensive end Elijah Daniel (Avon, Ind./Avon) spent the last two weekends in Mississippi visiting each of the state's BCS programs. This weekend it was Hugh Freeze and Ole Miss's turn to host Daniel, a former Clemson commitment.

"It was good," said Daniel, who returned home from his visit Sunday. "It was pretty cool, really cool, like the walk of champions to being inside the stadium."

Before the game, Daniel and the recruits went to The Grove, and the nation's No. 6 defensive end loved every moment of it.

"I had never seen nothing like that," he said.

Daniel, No. 82 in the ESPN 150, visited Ole Miss in the spring, but he said he received a much more in-depth visit this time around. Daniel saw the academics at Ole Miss and the dorms he would be leaving in if he enrolled in Oxford.

The Rebels have made a concerted effort to recruit the Midwest, and Daniel is the No. 2 player in Indiana. The 6-foot-3, 249-pound Daniel is a priority for the Rebels along with No. 1 prospect Robert Nkemdiche -- who decommitted from Clemson at about the same time as Daniel.

"They really would like me to come there," Daniel said, "and they said that it's the place for me."

Daniel officially visited Mississippi State last weekend, and he was in Ole Miss for the Egg Bowl -- the annual rivalry game against the Bulldogs. He said the atmosphere in Oxford was a little better.

"It was very similar but I'd have to say the atmosphere was a little more hyped, maybe because they were playing each other," Daniel said.

Following the visit, Daniel said Ole Miss is "up there" on his list along with Arizona State, Florida and Mississippi State. The Rebels will visit Daniel this week, as will Marshall.

Daniel will officially visit Florida on Jan. 12. The Gators were his leader in the spring.

Clemson and Daniel parted ways following his Mississippi State visit.
