Chris Frey (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) is hoping to accumulate more BCS offers, and a few coaching changes across the country could make that happen.
The 6-foot-1, 204-pound junior has an offer from Northern Illinois, but that came under the Dave Doeren regime. Doeren left NIU two months ago for NC State, and Frey is hoping that leads to interest from the Wolfpack.
“I want to see what’s going on with NC State with Doeren and [assistant coach Richard] McNutt,” Frey said.
Former Cincinnati assistant coach Mike Bajakian was recruiting Frey for the Bearcats, but Bajakian followed Butch Jones to Tennessee in December. Frey has been in contact with Bajakian since he made the move to Knoxville, and Bajakian is talking to Frey about visiting for the spring game.
“I got to give him a call and see how everything will work out,” Frey said.
Akron, Northern Illinois, Syracuse and Toledo have offered Frey, who is between linebacker and safety in college. His recruitment has quieted for the moment as teams determine where he fits best.
