Four-star Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy defensive end Faith Ekakitie committed to Iowa on Wednesday, and he took some time to break down his decision process on his blog.
Ekakitie’s final five were Boston College, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Northwestern and Oregon, and the decision came down to Boston College and the Hawkeyes.
So what led Ekakitie to Iowa?
“A gut feeling,” Ekakitie wrote. “That’s all, not the coaches, players, degrees, or even football. It all came down to where I truly felt at home. And I’m proud and extremely happy to announce that the gut feeling has led me to continue my career at the University of Iowa.”
Georgia Tech finished third for Ekakitie, who felt “there would be too many distractions within Atlanta for me to fully focus on the task at end.”
Northwestern was eliminated after Ekakitie failed to meet the school’s academic standards, which was a “wakeup call,” he said.
Ekakitie wrote Oregon was eliminated after the Ducks told him there was no longer any room for him.
