Erick Smith considering every option

INDIANAPOLIS -- When asked about playing in college with Erick Smith, all Marshon Lattimore could do was smile. Smith was posed the same question, and, he too, seemed to like the guy.

Several programs have offered the Cleveland Glenville teammates. Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are among the Big Ten teams to offer both.

“We always talk about that,” said Smith, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound safety. “It’s not even going to be just me and Marshon (as Glenville has alums at several BCS schools). It’ll probably be more of us.”

That last sentence from Smith might hint a lean to Ohio State, where fellow 2014 teammate Marcelys Jones is committed. Several Glenville players have gone on to star for the Buckeyes over the last decade.

Smith said he does not have any leaders at this point, and he will start breaking his list down once he makes a few visits.

Despite watching Ohio State as a child, Smith said the Michigan offer intrigues him.

“Growing up I always watched O-State so that [Michigan offer] kind of attracted me to Michigan,” Smith said. “They seem like a good school. I haven’t given them a visit so I don’t really know [his interest in the Wolverines].”

Tennessee has also offered both Lattimore and Smith, and the two will visit Knoxville for a spring practice in March. The Volunteers are one team Smith is comfortable saying he likes before he ever makes it down to see Tennessee.

“I like Tennessee, the tradition and Coach Mark Elder is a really cool guy,

Smith said, “and once I get down on the visit, I should be able to tell you how I really feel.”

Smith ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash at the Best of the Midwest combine Monday.
