Rutgers racks up two Tuesday commits

Rutgers is not in the Big Ten yet, but its 2014 recruiting class is starting to look like some of those in premier conferences.

The Scarlet Knights added two more commitments Tuesday when quarterback Tyler Wiegers (Detroit/Country Day) and receiver David Njoku (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) committed.

With the addition of those two, Rutgers’ class now stands at eight verbal pledges. To put that number in better perspective, only Texas (13), Texas A&M (10) and Florida (nine) have more 2014 commitments.

The commitment of Wiegers is a positive sign for the Scarlet Knights as they begin to harvest new recruiting grounds in the Midwest.

Njoku was receiving increased attention and visited Penn State a few weeks ago.

“The brotherhood of Rutgers, I love everything about it,” Njoku said.
