Buckeyes offer corner with blazing speed

Sometimes two words say it all. Sometimes those two words are a coach’s name.

That’s the case with Minkah Fitzpatrick (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter’s) and his latest offer from Ohio State.

With offers from Connecticut, Miami (Fla.) and Rutgers to go along with one from the Buckeyes, the speedy cornerback thought of Ohio State and envisioned playing at a school rich in tradition that is coached by someone with a resume for success.

“It’s great to know that I’m being recognized by a coach of that caliber,” said Fitzpatrick of Urban Meyer’s interest in him.

Fitzpatrick also has interest from Boston College, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.

While the sophomore is far from closing the books on a commitment, he was happy with the fact the nation’s only undefeated team last year came calling on Tuesday with the offer.

“It’s a great offer,” he said. “I don’t have an official ranking yet, but they are definitely a top school.”

A two-year varsity starter, the 5-foot-11, 181-pound Fitzpatrick had 21 tackles, 12 pass break-ups, and two interceptions for the Marauders on defense last season. He also gained over 400 yards offensively.

Fitzpatrick also known for speed as he’s already clocked a 4.45 40-yard dash.

He is the 24th player from the Class of 2015 offered by the Buckeyes, but only the second cornerback selected as he joins Rico McGraw out of The Ensworth School in Nashville, Tenn.
