B1G high school performers

This week's top performances from Big Ten commits and targets:


Henry McGrew: The Illinois commit had 11 tackles for Blue Valley (Kan.) in a 56-10 win over Blue Valley North.

Julian Hylton: The Lincoln-Way North (Ill.) running back had 37 carries, 269 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-12 win over Thornton.


J-Shun Harris: The Indiana commit and Fishers (Ind.) wide receiver returned a punt 71 yards for a score in a 47-28 win over Lafayette (Ind.) McCutcheon.

Tegray Scales: The Hoosiers target and Cincinnati Colerain linebacker had a 60-yard interception for a touchdown in a 57-7 win over Hamilton (Ohio).


Josh Jackson: The Iowa commit and Corinth (Texas) Lake Dallas cornerback logged 76 yards receiving and scored a touchdown in a 48-28 win over Denton (Texas).

Jyaz Jones: The Hawkeyes pledge and Dallas South Oak Cliff safety helped the Bears shut out North Dallas in a 75-0 win.


Wilton Speight: The Collegiate (Va.) quarterback went 22 of 30 passing with 257 yards and three touchdowns. Speight also had 83 yards rushing with one touchdown.

Shaun Crawford: The 2015 Michigan commit from St. Edward (Ohio) high school had seven carries for 98 yards and one touchdown. He also had a 56 yard punt return, four solo tackles, four assisted tackles and blocked a field goal.

Michigan State

Vayante Copeland: The Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood athlete returned the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown in a 41-31 loss to Winton Woods. Copeland had three total touchdowns on the day and 297 all-purpose yards.

Chris James: The Michigan State target helped Notre Dame (Ill.) in a 28-14 win over St. Viator. James had 28 carries for 106 yards.


Jeff Jones: The Washburn (Minn.) running back continues to add to his outstanding season. Jones had 190 rushing yards and seven touchdowns to lead Washburn to a 62-6 win over Roosevelt/Minnesota Transitions.

Trevon Walters: The Minnesota target helped Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee to a 62-0 victory over Southeast. Walters had 156 yards rushing and three touchdowns and played only the first half.


Christian Kirk: The 2015 target notched five touchdowns in a 56-0 win for Saguaro (Ariz.) over McClintock.

Soso Jamabo: The 2015 running back target helped Plano West (Texas) in an 18-3 win over Flower Mound. Jamabo had 11 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns.


Clayton Thorson: The Wheaton North (Ill.) quarterback threw for 216 yards and four touchdowns to go along with 93 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Dareian Watkins: The Galion (Ohio) athlete helped his team to a 63-8 win over Crestline. Watkins amassed 421 total yards, 167 rushing on only seven carries and 254 yards through the air.

Ohio State

Jalyn Holmes: The Buckeyes pledge and Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor defensive end caught a 53-yard touchdown pass and helped his team shut out Norfolk (Va.) Maury 56-0.

Malik Hooker: The Ohio State commit and New Castle (Pa.) athlete returned a kick off 97 yards for a score; ran for a 54-yard touchdown and had a 28-yard touchdown reception in a 47-28 over Bridgeville (Pa.) Chartiers Valley.

Penn State

Derrick Nnadi: The Penn State target and Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes defensive tackle forced Virginia Beach Bayside into three interceptions and registered four sacks in a 49-16 win.

Michael O’Connor: The Nittany Lions pledge and Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy quarterback was 12-of-20 for 177 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-5 win over Orlando (Fla.) First Academy.


Drue Tranquill: The Purdue commit and Ft. Wayne (Ind.) Carroll linebacker ran for 193 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 55-7 win over Decatur (Ind.) Bellmont.

Nile Sykes: The Boilermakers target and Lombard (Ill.) Montini Catholic inside linebacker registered a key sack and forced fumble in a 27-3 win over Aurora (Ill.) Marmion Catholic.


D.J. Gillins: The Badgers pledge and Jacksonville (Fla.) Ribault quarterback rushed for 166 yards and three scores and passed for 176 yards and another score in a 40-3 win over Jacksonville Stanton.

Joe Mixon: The Wisconsin target and Oakley (Calif.) Freedom running back rushed for 298 yards and scored six touchdowns in a 47-21 win over Castro Valley (Calif.).
