2014 LB White considering his options

Targets in the 2014 class can’t be officially offered yet, but inside linebacker William White (Detroit/Cass Tech) has been on the trail visiting schools.

On Saturday he was at Iowa. White has already been to Illinois and Wisconsin, and is planning a trip to Michigan State soon.

“I’ve really been impressed with the facilities at all the schools I’ve been to,” White said. “And especially academically, their graduation rates are something I’m looking at.”

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker is focused on finding a school where he can hit hard and study hard. White is hoping to study broadcasting and sports management.

The first criteria he’s looking for when judging schools is the graduation rates in his major. And White said the only other thing that he’s weighing heavily is a coach who is going to be honest with him through the recruitment and a coach that’s frank with his current players.

“I want a coach who’s going to be honest with me,” White said. “Honesty is just so important. You have to have that.”

While White hasn’t heard much from Michigan yet, though his first unofficial visit to Ann Arbor was last weekend. Like the other schools he is impressed with the facilities and academics. However, he also pointed out how much he has enjoyed watching the linebackers under linebacker coach Mark Smith.

“The linebackers there are very disciplined when going through drills,” White said. “That’s good.”

White said he has talked a bit with signee Royce Jenkins-Stone, a linebacker out of Cass Tech, but that he doesn’t think that would sway him one way or another when he eventually does make a decision.

He hasn’t laid out any timeline with when he plans on making a decision, and knows it’s still early in the recruiting process. Right now, he’s enjoying his visits to schools.
