Naperville (Ill.) offensive guard Colin Goebel was not sure if he was going to commit to Iowa while visiting Saturday.
He didn’t. He committed on the ride there.
“I was undecided [about committing on the visit] and then on the ride up there I talked it over with my family and decided to commit,” Goebel said. “We narrowed it down and it was down to Iowa at the beginning of the trip, but I was still contemplating a few other schools. I talked it over and said ‘Why wait and check out a couple places we wouldn’t even consider that highly?’”
The Hawkeyes coaching staff was key in securing a commitment from the 6-foot-3, 275-pound three-star guard. The staff really impressed Goebel’s dad, who was making his first visit to Iowa City.
“I wanted to make sure my dad could see it before committing,” Goebel said. “He loved the coaches the most.”
Goebel said the staff could see him playing any of the offensive line positions when he arrives, but he prefers to play either tackle or guard.
