Junior OG Shane Evans on Big Ten radars

Junior offensive guard Shane Evans (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) has a lot of interest from programs, and he made his way around the Midwest this fall visiting several of those schools.

The most recent trip went to Northwestern, making it the fourth time Evans made it to campus. Evans took in the game against Iowa.

"I liked it a lot. The coaches are real nice, treated me real well and they played great," Evans said. "I got a good feelign there."

Previous trips were for camps and Northwestern's barbecue during the summer, so this was Evans' first time experiencing game day at Northwestern. Although not a football powerhouse, Evans liked the tradition at Northwestern and saw the coaches are really there for the players' best interests.

Evans got to hear from the coaches before the game as the recruits had a chance to speak with the people from athletics and academics.

"They had some of the recruiting coordinators and head adviser there to talk to us about education and all that, and that's very important," Evans said. "Education is obviously key, and they stress that there."

Michigan, Michigan State, Northern Illinois and Notre Dame also hosted on Evans on visits this year. Evans said none of those visits stand out over the others and enjoyed all of them.

He will close out his visits with a trip to Iowa on Nov. 10 and Wisconsin on Nov. 17.

Evans is working toward his first offer, and he feels like Michigan could be closest based on conversations with assistant coach Darrell Funk.

"They're talking about how my position hasn't really had an offer. They're looking for me at guard/center," Evans said. "He said they're interested in me, and the next couple years will be more run based so I can play early."

Prairie Ridge's season has ended, and Evans will not play basketball this year to focus on training for football and the shot put and discus in the spring.
