It was close to 2 a.m. on Saturday, so the Barrons just pulled into the first hotel they saw when they reached Cincinnati. When Kirk Barron (Mishawake, Ind./Marian) went downstairs for breakfast, there was a surprise waiting for him.
“We stayed at the same hotel as the team,” Barron said, referring to the Bearcats. “So when I went down for breakfast I saw the entire team down there. It was cool.”
It was pure coincidence, as Barron had no idea that is where the Bearcats were staying the night before the game. The coaches could not talk to Barron in the hotel but were able to speak with him once he got to Nippert Stadium.
The coaches, specifically head coach Butch Jones, impressed him most on his visit.
“Coach Jones does a fantastic job there. He said our goal here is to win a national championship,” Barron said.
Barron spent most of the time talking with recruiting assistants but still got a good feel for the coaches.
The game day experience at Cincinnati also impressed the 6-foot-2, 292-pound interior offensive lineman.
“Game day is great for being such a big city. The people are all supportive there, and it’s such a great city,” Barron said. “The game was amazing. They play the music and everyone is up tempo about how well the team’s doing. You can tell they love the Bearcats there.”
Barron said he might visit Ohio or another MAC school this weekend, and he has visits set for Kansas and TCU as well.
