UA jersey tour: ESPN 300 OT Alijah Vera-Tucker

ESPN 300 offensive tackle Alijah Vera-Tucker received his Under Armour All-America Game jersey Wednesday in a presentation sponsored by American Family Insurance at Bishop O’Dowd High in Oakland, Calif.

“It’s a real honor to be included in this group of talented athletes,” said Vera-Tucker. “A lot of UAAA athletes who are now in college and the NFL have had the opportunity to play in this game, and I’m working hard to be included in that list.”

Vera-Tucker committed to USC in early August, but the rough start to the season and coaching rumors already having begun has the offensive tackle leaving open the possibility of taking official visits.

“I picked USC for a combination of reasons like academic support, the coaching staff, the history of USC, and academic excellence. The key reason was because it felt like a home away from home. I haven’t decided yet if I will take any official visits.”

Five questions with Alijah Vera-Tucker:

What players are you looking forward to competing with or against at the Under Armour All America game?

"I am looking forward to competing with a lot of these guys on offense and defense. It’s a rare opportunity to line up with and against the best of the best. I am excited."

What is your earliest football memory?

"My very first football memory was learning how to throw and catch a football with my father at the park."

If you could take on any professional athlete in their sport, who would it be and why?

"Being from Oakland I am a huge Raiders fan. If I could take on any player it would be Khalil Mack."

What number do you wear, and why?

"It’s a really a funny reason why I wear number 75. I won the number in a rock paper scissors game against one of my teammates my sophomore year. I just like the way the number looks."

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

"I played soccer for 8 years and then didn’t ever play contact football until my freshman year."

The 2017 Under Armour All-America Game will be played on January 1 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. on ESPN with practices televised on ESPNU during the week.
