Pitt wins battle for Devon Edwards

Three-star tight end-Y Devon Edwards (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor) committed this weekend to sign with Pittsburgh, multiple sources report. He was recruited by Panthers offensive coordinator / tight ends coach Joe Rudolph.

According to the Tribune-Review, he selected Pittsburgh over Cincinnati and West Virginia. Boston College, Kentucky, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Purdue, Toledo and Wisconsin also extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior.

ESPN believes he may need some time before emerging as a consistent contributor for Pitt, "Edwards is a good sized dude who shows flashes as a receiving target that can help move the chains and as a blocker, but he needs to keep developing his game in both areas as you feel like he can get even more out of his abilities."

Pittsburgh, still feeling the sting from ESPN 300 running back Corey Clement's (Glassboro, N.J.) decommitment, currently has 19 verbals for 2013.
