Recruits react to the retirement of Frank Beamer

Top five coaching vacancies for recruiting (3:40)

ESPN's Craig Haubert and Tom Luginbill break down what are the top five college football coaching jobs based on their recruiting landscape. (3:40)

The winningest active coach in the FBS ranks is stepping down. On Sunday, Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer announced he will be retiring at season’s end after facing increasing pressure, and questions about his future. The Hokies are 4-5 this season and 26-22 since 2012.

That means for the first time in 29 years, a period in which Beamer won a combined seven Big East and ACC Coach of the Year honors, there will be a new head coach in Blacksburg.

With the report of Beamer stepping down at season’s end still fresh and the news having yet to reach every commitment, the reactions varied, as expected.
