UK lands a signal-caller

2013 quarterback Reese Phillips (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) has ended the recruiting process and committed to play for Kentucky, the Times Free Press reports.

"Coach (Joker) Phillips started off by asking about me, and then he told me about himself," Reese told the Times Free Press. "He said, 'I really like you and that's why I wanted to offer you a scholarship.' He said they were going to close the book on quarterbacks and that I was the guy they wanted. I said this is where I want to be."

Phillips turned down scholarship offers from Memphis and Middle Tennessee while Mississippi State and Vanderbilt also recruited the 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect.

He completed 71-percent of his passes for 1,875 yards, 21 touchdowns and just four interceptions as a junior earning all-state recognition.
