Franklin adds Florida State offer

Alex Collins (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation) was about to burst. He knew a secret, but he also knew he couldn't let it out just yet.

Finally on Wednesday, John Franklin (Plantation, Fla./South Plantation), his teammate and quarterback got the news that Collins already knew. Franklin got his offer from Florida State.

"I was quiet because I didn't know what to say," Franklin said. "I was kind of shocked, at a loss for words. It was exciting, of course, for them to be one of the schools that I was hoping to offer me and they actually did.

"They are the biggest school that I have and one that I really wanted to go to, it was exciting to get an offer and knowing that Coach [Jimbo] Fisher believes in me that I can be a big contribution to the program is a great feeling."

Franklin is pretty familiar with the Seminoles. He's camped there on multiple occasions and likes the coaching staff.

So when Coach Fisher told him he will have a chance to play quarterback initially, Franklin believed him. And if that doesn't work out, playing receiver in Tallahassee would be just fine, too.

"At Florida State, I wouldn't mind playing receiver there,” Franklin said. “But I also think quarterback there would be a good spot for me, too."

FSU joins Air Force, Bowling Green, FIU, Georgia State, Navy, Samford, Temple and Western Kentukcy who have all already offered.

Now it is time for Franklin to start processing the information and move toward a decision.

"I think it should be soon that I make a decision, but I have to talk it over with my parents first," said Franklin. "Also, I think other schools will jump on the train now, but I am going to talk it over with my parents. I should have a decision soon, hopefully."

As for Collins, well, Florida State wants him, too. The ESPN 300 running back is currently committed to Miami, but has taken an official visit to FSU and has considered them for a while now.

It is possible that both he and Franklin could end up in Tallahassee to continue being teammates at the next level. But, of course, it all depends on what is best for each individual party.

"We talk about it every day," Franklin said. "He knew that they were going to offer me before I did. It was killing him not to tell me. We had already talked about it once today. We'll have to see what is best for him and best for me, but we have always said that if we had the opportunity to play together, we would try to make it happen. We'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if it happens."
