Rutgers keeps Kiy Hester home

ESPN 300 athlete Kiy Hester (Montvale, N.J./St. Joseph Regional) committed on Friday to play for the Scarlet Knights, according to multiple reports.

"I was gonna commit two weeks ago but my mom told me to hold off just to make sure I'm 100-percent sure and make sure I don't have any regrets about anything," Hester told NJ.com.

"Going out of state is one thing, but when your home-state school is winning games and they're producing, why not just stay home? And after so many DBs (defensive backs) being drafted from there, that played a part, too."

Boston College, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia were his other scholarship offers.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect, ranked No. 189 in the ESPN 300, received interest from Alabama, North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin.

Rutgers, which also added ESPN 300 wide receiver Adonis Jennings (Erial, N.J./Timber Creek) this week, currently sits at No. 29 in ESPN RecruitingNation's class rankings, but is expected to rise with the next update.
