Wake tops state rivals for WR Barbour

Three-star wide receiver Jaylan Barbour (Monroe, N.C./Monroe) has ended the recruiting process and will play for Wake Forest, according to the Enquirer-Journal.

Duke and East Carolina also were squarely in the mix for Barbour's verbal. Appalachian State, Charlotte, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and West Virginia were his other scholarship offers.

"I had been thinking about it lately, and I decided to call and tell them I was coming there," he told the Enquirer-Journal. "I visited last weekend, and I really enjoyed the campus. The coaches showed me a lot of love. I thought about it a lot this week."

"I liked that everything's within walking distance," Barbour added. "I observed a practice, and everybody was working hard and getting along. ... I finally got my decision off my chest, and I'm good now."

Barbour arrived on the scene as a sophomore when he caught 44 passes for 861 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 5-foot-10, 164-pound prospect missed time last fall due to an ankle injury but still hauled in 42 balls for 521 yards and 3 scores.

Before his junior year, Barbour posted an electronically timed 4.97 40-yard dash, 4.49 20-yard shuttle, 27.3-inch vertical and 59.28 SPARQ at a Nike event.

The Demon Deacons' class now holds nine pledges.
