UA jersey tour: Garrald McDowell

Senior defensive tackle Garrald McDowell (Covington, La./Covington) was presented his honorary game jersey Thursday at Covington High School during the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the 2014 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game. The event was part of the three-month selection tour.

McDowell is one of 90 players selected to compete in the seventh annual Under Armour All-America Game, a nationally televised all-star game spotlighting the country’s top high school seniors. The game is set for 4 p.m. ET Jan. 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., and will be televised on ESPN.

“First of all, I want to thank my family and friends for coming to support me on this special event,” McDowell said. “I want to thank my teachers and my coaches that keep pushing me hard everyday. That’s it.”

For McDowell, being selected to the Under Armour All-America Game is quite an honor, along with the chance to play against the best of the best.

“To be selected as an Under Armour All-American ... it’s a great honor and I feel like all my hard work is paying off. I think I was selected because I work hard on and off the field. I do a great job, I play hard and I’m always looking to do better. I’m looking forward to playing against Leonard Fournette in the game, and everybody else from the Gulf Shore. I want to play against the best of the best,” McDowell said.

The 6-foot-1, 257-pound McDowell is the No. 109 prospect in the ESPN 300 and the No. 9 defensive tackle in the class. McDowell is considering Ole Miss, LSU, Tennessee and Arkansas.
