South Carolina might be losing arguably the best defensive end to ever play in Columbia, S.C. -- Jadeveon Clowney -- to the NFL, but at least some relief is on the way.
The Gamecocks picked up a commitment from ESPN 300 defensive end Dante Sawyer (Suwannee, Ga./North Gwinnett) on Tuesday afternoon. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defender announced his choice on Twitter and later confirmed his decision via text message.

The No. 91-ranked player in the country chose the Gamecocks over Auburn, Missouri and Georgia. He also held offers from other schools, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, LSU and many others.
As a senior in high school, Sawyer totaled 60 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, and three sacks. The versatile athlete also rushed the ball 11 times for 50 yards and a touchdown and caught a pass for 31 yards.
Though South Carolina is limited on available scholarships, the Gamecocks have still managed to put together the No. 30-ranked recruiting class in the country. With the addition of Sawyer, the Gamecocks now have 16 verbal commitments, including six ranked in the ESPN 300.
