Bell previews ND visit; talks USC interest

Tre’ Bell (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) picked up his offer from Notre Dame on Mar. 8. It didn’t take long for Bell to schedule his unofficial visit to the Fighting Irish after that.

One of the top cornerbacks in the Mid-Atlantic will visit South Bend, Ind., this coming weekend.

“I want to check out the campus and stuff like that,” Bell said. “I want to meet all the coaching staff and get to watch practice. I can’t wait to see that.”

The Irish are no stranger to New Jersey prospects, and coach Brian Kelly plucked Don Bosco standout 2012 defensive back Elijah Shumate in January. However, it is a Jersey running back who did not commit to the Irish that is doing some recruiting for them.

“Savon Huggins was telling me about them last year,” Bell said. “He said they’re a great school.”

In his few talks with the Irish staff, Bell said they have talked about how impressed they are with his overall game.

“They like my length, my speed, the way I come up and hit,” Bell said. “Tey saw just about everything you need in a corner.”

One of the Irish’s biggest rivals is also entering the fold for Bell, though. The USC staff has reached out to Bell, and he is thrilled to hear from a national program like the Trojans.

“I have a lot of interest in them,” he said. “I always watched them when I was younger. They have a great program all together. It’s great to have them contact me. It’s amazing. I can’t wait to get to know more about them.”

Following the visit to Notre Dame, Bell will travel to Florida (Apr. 7), South Carolina (Apr. 14) and West Virginia (Apr. 21). A Florida fan growing up, Bell was favoring the Gators after they offered, but he said he is back to being open.

“As I take these visits I’ll probably start narrowing down,” he said, “but right now I’m still open.”
