Jacky Marcellus commits to dream school

Three-star running back Jacky Marcellus (Immokalee, Fla.) pledged to sign with the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday, multiple sources report.

According to the Naples Daily News, the 5-foot-8, 180-pound Marcellus idolized former WVU running backs Steve Slaton and Noel Devine growing up.

"I've been thinking about playing for West Virginia's offense since eighth grade," he told the Daily News. "When Noel Devine came in, I started studying the offense. He's a smaller back, I'm a smaller back. I can play in that offense."

Appalachian State, Ball State, Cincinnati, UConn, Florida Atlantic, UMass, Minnesota, Rutgers and Vanderbilt were his other scholarship offers. Programs such as Florida State and Missouri showed interest.

The versatile Marcellus rushed for 691 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 34 passes for a team-high 747 yards and seven more scores as a junior.

Immokalee is expected to have at least six players sign with Football Championship Subdivision schools for 2013.

The Mountaineers have a dozen verbals for this recruiting cycle.
