Three-star tight end Christian Morgan (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) is committed to Florida State, but he’s always had an interest in Ole Miss. He originally chose the Seminoles over Ole Miss, Baylor and Arkansas in June.
Morgan’s first official visit wasn’t to Tallahassee, Fla., over the weekend. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound tight end visited Oxford, Miss., and took in the Ole Miss experience. While the Rebels were on the wrong end of a bad loss to Texas, Morgan said he enjoyed the experience.
“It was a blast,” Morgan said. “My family really loves Ole Miss. My sister’s getting recruited to play volleyball there, so she loved hanging out there. It was just great to see the coaches again. I have a great relationship with those guys, pretty much the whole staff.
“The Grove was nuts, and the atmosphere was crazy. The game didn’t go the way they wanted, but Coach [Hugh] Freeze is working with what he has. Overall, it was a great experience.”
Morgan had a chance to hang out with four-star Ole Miss commits in Ryan Buchanan (Jackson, Miss./Jackson Prep) and running back Mark Dodson Jr. (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven). He also had a chance to visit extensively with his area recruiting contact, linebackers coach Tom Allen, as well as Ole Miss tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Maurice Harris.
Morgan said he is still committed to Florida State, but Ole Miss is still a player in his recruiting process. He added that the 7½-hour drive from Oxford to Plano wouldn’t be the time for him to make any impulse decisions.
“I’m still thinking about some things,” Morgan said. “I haven’t talked to [Florida State] since I took this official, so I plan on talking to them and seeing where I am. I’m not trying to get caught up in the emotions of it all. I will sit down and talk with my family and see what’s best.”
Morgan is the No. 12 tight end-Y in the country and the No. 76 player in Texas.
