Terps score in-state three-star talent

Kenneth Goins (Baltimore, Md./Gilman), a 5-foot-9, 210-pound senior, has committed to play for Maryland, according to multiple sources. ESPN's Dave Hooker confirmed the news with Gilman head coach Henry Russell.

Goins played tailback and linebacker for Gilman, who won a conference championship this season. He is expected to play outside linebacker for the Terrapins. Maryland has made recruiting the area nearby a priority and Gilman is one of the most talented schools close to College Park, according to Hooker.

The senior also had scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Navy, Tulane and East Carolina. Programs such as West Virginia and UConn showed interest.

He's posted a 4.65 40-yard dash, 4.5 20-yard shuttle and 27-inch vertical along the combine circuit.

Maryland has now secured 18 verbals in its Class of 2012.
