Germod Williams (Conroe, Texas/Oak Ridge) has picked up an offer from UTEP, and the rising defensive back -- who had no offers in May -- is now up to five offers.
A 5-foot-11, 185-pound safety who most likely will play cornerback in college, Williams has FBS offers from UTEP, Northwestern, Texas State and Rice, as well as one from FCS school Houston Baptist.
“Whenever you don’t have them, you always wish for them,” Williams said of the scholarship offers. “You’ve just got to wait and be patient for them. It’s good to have them all, but I know I’ve got to stay humble and keep working.”
Recruited by running backs coach Jeff Banks, Williams said a UTEP offer is intriguing because of the potential of playing time early in his college career.
“Coach Banks told me they had four senior DBs graduating, and they were looking for some good DBs to come in automatically start. He was telling me the DB coaches like me a lot, and they liked my film. He said I could be a big part of the defense.”
Williams said he has yet to set up an official visit, but he’s looking to do so later this year.
