Scouts: Cal adds versatile LB Egu

Cal is fielding a young linebacker corps this season with some promise and it just added to the future with an in-state LB who should be able to play inside or out in the Bear’s 3-4 scheme. That valuable scheme versatility and good blend of size and athleticism make Victor Egu (Concord, Calif./De La Salle) a very good pickup for Cal.

The future Bear, producing at a high level versus good competition, shows the quick downhill burst to make plays inside-out between the tackles and the speed, lateral agility and range to make key stops outside the hashes. Its starts with his quick first step which also aids him as a standup pass rusher which is a coveted attribute for any linebacker getting recruited to a 3-4 scheme. He may need some time to fill out and physically develop but this is a big, smart, fast and athletic linebacker with a lot of upside.
