Pitt offers 2014 Ohio tight end Darryl Long

This summer, Darryl Long (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) moved to tight end. The move is paying dividends for Long, who added offer No. 2 on Monday.

Pittsburgh assistant coach Matt House visited the school earlier in the day Monday and let Long know to give tight ends coach Joe Rudolph a call. When Long did, Rudolph gave him the good news.

“I got off the phone with him not too long ago,” Long said. “He liked my tape, said he liked I was versatile and can block and catch real good. They pulled my grades and saw what my grades are and I took the SAT and said I have a lot going for me right now.”

The 6-foot-5, 217-pound Long does not know much about the program but watched the Panthers on TV the other day. He knows a little bit about the city and campus, though.

“I’ve been there for a basketball tournament and got a chance to see, not take a view of the campus, but drove through the campus,” he said. “And my dad went to school at Carnegie Mellon so he tells me about Pittsburgh.

“He told me it was cold -- first thing he said. He said he liked it a lot, nice town, a lot of stuff goes on at Pittsburgh, a lot of hills and things of that nature.”

Long said he wants to visit Pitt “as soon as possible,” but first he’ll take in a game at either Michigan or Vanderbilt this weekend. He will visit Duke the following weekend on Nov. 24.

Ohio offered Long during the summer after a camp.
