Gareon Conley schedules 2 official visits

Urban Meyer wasted little time in targeting one of the biggest free agents in the 2013 class.

Meyer visited ESPN 150 cornerback Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) at his school and then finished up with an in-home visit. It was a visit Tigers coach Jason Hall said went off without a hitch.

“It went great. I think it was a chance for Gareon to be around Coach Meyer,” Hall said. “It was a good chance for Gareon to ask a lot of questions. Coach Meyer is a great coach, great person. It was good for him to be around our building. He did a home visit last night as well.”

Meyer and Conley will certainly get to know more of each other as the cornerback will come to Columbus on an official visit Dec. 6.

The senior won’t be done there as the Michigan decomit still has plans to make a trip to Ann Arbor, to check in with the Wolverines, who are still recruiting him.

A decision will likely have to wait, Hall said, as Conley wants to take his time before announcing.

“He’s a smart kid. That decision is a family decision,” the Washington coach said. “My job is to give the kids every opportunity they can. I like to see him stay in the region. It looks like he’ll stay a couple hours away from Massillon no matter what.

“I think Gareon was excited to see Coach Meyer and so was the family. He and his family understand this is a big decision for them. They’re really crossing their T’s and dotting their I’s. They’re doing their research. Michigan and Ohio State are two premier programs in the country. He wants a chance to meet each coach and know them on a personal level. Just like at Massillon, he’s going to be all in.”

Defensively, Conley had 25 tackles, a forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception for a score. He has made 21 tackles even though teams rarely throw his way. At receiver, Conley led Massillon in catches (50), yards receiving (1,096) and touchdowns (16).
