Zach Fondal a 'soft' Arkansas commit

COPPERAS COVE, Texas -- Following a win in Saturday’s C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl, junior college offensive tackle and Arkansas commit Zach Fondal (Corsicana, Texas/Navarro College) cleared the air in regards to his current recruiting process.

Fondal, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound sophomore, committed to the Razorbacks in September. With interim coach John L. Smith not returning next season, Fondal said that while he’s still committed, he’s monitoring the coaching situation and keeping his options open.

“I’m a soft commit right now,” Fondal said. “I’m looking at a couple of schools, but for the time being, I’m still committed.

“I didn’t think a big deal of [the coaching situation]. As the season progressed, things weren’t looking too good. It’s still an SEC school, so I know what they’re capable of.”

Fondal was a part of a Navarro team that finished the year 10-2 and won its second consecutive HOT Bowl title. Navarro also has won three consecutive Southwest Junior College Football Conference titles. Navarro defeated Georgia Military College 30-23 on Saturday.

“You work pretty hard all season, and the hard work pays off,” Fondal said. “That fourth quarter was the definition of facing adversity. We did a good job.”

Now, Fondal will focus on recruiting. Along with Arkansas, South Florida, Kansas, East Carolina and New Mexico have offered. West Virginia and Texas Tech have shown early interest in him.
