It’s now a waiting game for Lavonte Robinson (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Edward). He has a new favorite. Now he just needs an offer.
The 5-foot-11, 225-pound inside linebacker officially visited Iowa this past weekend with teammate Solomon Warfield, a Hawkeyes commit.
The Hawkeyes have a need at linebacker, which is why Robinson was brought in on a visit with Warfield. However, the coaches are still waiting to hear back from some of the other linebackers already offered before making a move on Robinson.
“They have two offers out at linebacker so there’s nothing we can do,” Robinson said. “The best thing I can do is wait it out and see if anything opens up down the line.”
The Hawkeyes are at the top of Robinson’s list now following the visit. The coaches, players and university overall were “amazing,” he said. The coaches stressed to Robinson the importance of academics at Iowa, and Robinson said he felt that when talking to the other players.
The lasting impression for Robinson was the players’ thoughts on being at Iowa as most are from out of state.
“They’re kind of like me. When they first heard of Iowa you question it, like ‘Iowa?’ ” Robinson said. “Once you get out there and you see it, it’s great. They said the same thing. Once you get out there you love the state and the people in it.”
Eastern Michigan and Toledo have also offered, and he has a visit set to Eastern Michigan for the weekend of Dec. 14. He was at Eastern Michigan for a camp this summer.
“It gave me a good family sense,” Robinson said.
Robinson helped St. Edward to an undefeated regular season, posting 143 tackles -- 12 for loss, three forced fumbles, two recoveries, three interceptions and a touchdown.
