Massington loves Tide, waiting on coaches

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- When Eldridge Massington decommitted from USC last week, Alabama moved to the top of his list. After taking his official visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend, nothing has changed. The Crimson Tide still lead for the ESPN 300 wide receiver.

“It went great,” Massington said. “I love Alabama -- the atmosphere, the players, everything.

“Friday, we ate a lot. I got to talk with Amari Cooper. Saturday, same thing, we ate more. I got to talk to Coop a little more. I toured the campus and stuff, talked to the strength and conditioning coach. Sunday, we went over to Nick Saban’s house and got to ride down his trail.”

During the weekend, it was clear that Alabama was trying to use its star freshman to help recruit Massington. Cooper, who has 895 yards and and nine touchdowns this season, told the wide receiver prospect what to expect if he were to choose the Tide.

“He’s real cool,” Massington said. “He’s very humble. He was just telling me everything that I need to know. Basically, he said at Alabama, you’ve got to work. It’s nothing but work, work, work. No days off at Alabama.”

The UA coaching staff said they want to use Massington -- who stands at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds -- the same way they used Julio Jones and the same way they are using Cooper this season. However, first they need to decide if they have room in the class for him.

“That’s a decision that has to be made,” Massington said.

A decision is expected to come this week from Alabama, but for now, Massington is continuing to look at other schools. He’s currently on his official visit to UCLA, and he will take another official visit to Arizona State this weekend.

Tennessee is also in the mix, as he wants to reach out to new head coach Butch Jones, but Massington said it’s basically down to Alabama and UCLA.
