Buckeyes continue to woo Ulmer

The coincidences are getting hard to ignore.

Not only does Will Ulmer have similar skills as Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, the two also wear the same jersey number, as both sport No. 5.

"It is unique that we both have the same number and play just alike," said Ulmer, a junior quarterback from Washington (D.C.) St John's.

Ohio State coaches see the similarities. While recruiting senior prospects is the focus this time of year, the Buckeyes still manage to keep in touch with Ulmer, who is expected to be a top member of the 2014 class. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tom Herman visited with Ulmer via a phone call on Tuesday.

"Talked to Coach Herman today briefly," Ulmer said. "He said I'm their next Braxton and that there aren't any guys out there that can run and pass the way I do."

Ulmer cited a meeting with Miller as one of the highlights on his visit to Ohio State in November.

"I talked to him when I went up there," the 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior said. "He seems like a pretty good guy."

When asked if Miller reminds him most of his game, Ulmer said, "Oh most definitely."

Ohio State has yet to offer Ulmer a scholarship. If it does, they'll instantly be strong players. For now, Maryland is one of the programs pursuing Ulmer the hardest. Some pending visits should garner more interest.

Ulmer has scholarship offers from Maryland, Boston College, North Carolina and Syracuse. He has also seen interest from Oregon, South Carolina and West Virginia.

"I'm going up to Maryland sometime soon and a lot of other places," Ulmer said. "I'm making my schedule on Christmas break."
