Road grading, three-star offensive guard Alexander Officer (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) decided Sunday to declare for the Panthers, multiple sources report.
The 6-foot-3, 322-pound Officer made an official visit to Pitt for the weekend of Dec. 7. He was recruited by Panthers running backs coach Desmond Robinson.
Boston College, Buffalo, Connecticut, Louisville, Massachusetts, Old Dominion, Purdue, Rutgers and Syracuse also offered the senior prospect. Virginia Tech and West Virginia showed interest.
ESPN writes in his evaluation: "Officer plays with the quickness and playing strength needed to dominate at his present level of competition ... is a tough customer who plays with the nasty finishing attitude ... early playing time is a possibility if a redshirt isn't deemed necessary."
Pittsburgh now has 20 commitments, including three offensive linemen, for 2013.
