Juco DT Cherry commits to ASU

Junior college defensive tackle Demetrius Cherry (San Pablo, Calif./Contra Costa College) has committed to Arizona State, Contra Costa coach Alonzo Carter confirmed on Monday.

Cherry, who is 6-foot-6 and 250 pounds, took an official visit to Arizona State two weeks ago and felt the most comfortable during that visit.

A three-star prospect, Cherry also made official visits to Iowa State, Illinois and just returned from San Diego State this weekend.

He also had offers from Fresno State and Maryland, among others. Cherry is expected to sign with the Sun Devils on Wednesday, the first day of the juco early signing period.

Cherry is the 16th commit for ASU’s 2013 class and the first at defensive tackle. He is also the Sun Devils’ second juco pledge in as many days. Center Nick Kelly (Sacramento, Calif./American River College) committed to ASU on Sunday.
