While Charlie Partridge’s decision to leave Wisconsin and join Bret Bielema at Arkansas didn’t make big headlines this weekend, it was big recruiting news for prospects in South Florida.
Partridge, who will become Arkansas’ defensive line coach, was an ace recruiter for Wisconsin in the South Florida area where he delivered prospects like former Big Ten Freshman of the Year James White and most recently four-star defensive back Sojourn Shelton (Plantation, Fla./Plantation).
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound senior admitted he was upset to hear of Partridge’s departure.
“It was a tough one because I was very close to him and I wish he wasn’t leaving,” Shelton said. “I was hoping he would be promoted to defensive coordinator at Wisconsin.
“However, Arkansas gained a good recruiter and a good coach. I’m happy for him.”
As for Shelton, who is expected to enroll early -- although he might listen if Arkansas reached out to him -- he appears to be solid with Wisconsin.
“I honestly feel like I will stick [with Wisconsin] because it’s a great place,” Shelton added. “When the new coach steps in I will be sure to talk to him and take it from there.”
