Juco OLB Campbell still undecided

Editor's note: This story was updated on Wednesday following Hutchinson Community College's decision to retract its release announcing De'Vondre Campbell's decision.

Despite reports to the contrary on Tuesday night, De'Vondre Campbell has not decommitted from Tennessee or committed to Texas.

A release put out by the school on its official website announced that the Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College three-star outside linebacker had signed with Texas on the eve of junior college signing day. Hutchinson has since retracted that release and removed it from its website.

"He's not [signing Wednesday]," Hutchinson linebackers coach Shaun Simon told HornsNation in a text message. "He will in February. He's not committed to Texas!"

According to Simon, Campbell plans to take two more official visits before he reaches his final decision. Though he'd originally planned to enroll at a school in January, Campbell will now graduate from Hutchinson in May and has three years to play three seasons.

Campbell has been committed to Tennessee since May 4, but the dismissal of Derek Dooley and his coaching staff at the end of this season led him to look elsewhere.

Texas officially offered the 6-foot-5, 224-pound linebacker on Nov. 19, and Campbell took an official visit for Texas’ banquet weekend Dec. 7-8 along with 10 Texas commits and two other juco targets. He also visited Minnesota this weekend.

Campbell is ESPN’s No. 10 ranked junior college outside linebacker prospect. He played his high school ball at Fort Myers (Fla.) Cypress Lake High.

As a redshirt freshman at Hutchinson, Campbell was the team’s second-leading tackler with 88 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and an interception.

If he does end up signing with Texas, Campbell would be the third linebacker to commit to Texas’ 14-man class, joining ESPN 300 prospect Deoundrei Davis (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods) and Naashon Hughes (Harker Heights, Texas/Harker Heights). Davis tore his ACL in his senior season but plans to enroll early.
