Terps sign record-setting WR, All-SCFA OL

Wide receiver Deon Long (Washington, D.C./Iowa Western CC) and offensive tackle Silvano Altamirano (San Diego/San Diego Mesa College) have signed with Maryland, according to head coach Randy Edsall.

Long, ranked No. 47 in the ESPN JC 100, originally signed with New Mexico in 2010. After a redshirt year, he caught 47 passes for 809 yards and 4 touchdowns during the 2011 season. This fall, Long completed the most productive junior college receiving season in history. He hauled in 100 passes for 1,625 yards and 25 touchdowns earning first team All-American recognition.

"[Deon] is an outstanding young man who has demonstrated the ability to be a big play wide receiver with the numbers he put up this past year at Iowa Western," Edsall told the school's website. "He is a wide receiver that possesses all of the qualities that we look for in a wide receiver."

Altamirano is a 6-foot-3, 290-pound, three-star prospect who sits at No. 53 in the ESPN JC 100. He was named to the All-Southern California Football Association first team after his sophomore campaign.

"I am very happy to have Silvano come in and be part of our offensive line at the University of Maryland," Edsall said. "He has the explosiveness, speed, pulling ability and toughness that we want from our offensive linemen."

The Terps have 18 players on board for 2013 including their early signings.
