Timmons has Ohio State among favorites

If Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is listening, it won’t take much to become one of the favorites for an ESPN 300 athlete who already has an official visit lined up for Jan. 11.

At least that’s what Ryan Timmons (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County) said Monday when asked for his favorites.

“Once Ohio State offers, it’ll probably be Kentucky and Ohio State,” he said.

For now, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Timmons has a front four of Arkansas, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes will get the last say in terms of official visits as he’s already taken them at the other three schools.

As a senior, Timmons carried the ball 72 times for 1,225 yards and scored 25 touchdowns. He also had 29 receptions for 965 yards and 15 more scores and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns as well.

Here’s what he had to say about his four schools:

Arkansas: “They’re good. I haven’t talked to the new head coach yet (Bret Bielema). They’re coming back in January when I’m back in school, but my offer is still there with them. When they come down to see me, I’ll know more about that.”

Kentucky: “(Offensive coordinator) Neal Brown is a great offensive coach. They spread the ball around. They run the same offense I’ve been running for the last five years. We took our offense from his, so I already know half the plays.”

Illinois: “My chances to play there are really good. I like Coach [Tim] Beckman and their wide receivers coach (Billy Gonzales) is really good. He worked with good wide receivers when he was at Florida and LSU, so he’s pretty good.”

Ohio State: “They win. Coach Meyer is a great coach. The guys he coaches can play at the next level. I think there isn’t a reason I shouldn’t be there if I work hard with the coaches they have. How they want to use me is how I’ve been playing my entire high school career. It’s at the slot and then into the backfield. It’s something I already have a jump on.”
