Athlete Chris Holmes makes a switch

Three-star senior Chris Holmes (Fredricksburg, Va./Chancellor) decommitted from the NC State Wolfpack and in favor of the Duke Blue Devils, multiple sources report.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Holmes originally selected North Carolina State in July under former head coach Tom O'Brien.

Boston College, Clemson, East Carolina, Illinois, Marshall, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Temple and West Virginia also offered. Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech showed interest.

ESPN writes in its evaluation: "Holmes is a wide receiver with tremendous ball skills and focus. His size, speed and athleticism coupled with agility after the catch is very attractive as an outside target. ... Could be a candidate on defense as a either a safety or safety/OLB hybrid."

Duke has 17 pledges for 2013 including 14 three-star prospects.
