SAN ANTONIO - - ESPN Watch List offensive tackle Mike Grimm (Bethel Park, Pa.) was on a mission to represent his state on Friday at the U.S. Army National Combine, and he did just that.
Grimm (6-foot-6, 310 pounds) won 10 of his 12 1-on-1s to cap off a very impressive day.
“I just wanted to win all of my 1-on-1s and show everyone what’s going on with Pittsburgh,” he said. “I think I did pretty good. I ran a 5.5 40. I had a vertical of 23.5 and won all but two 1-on-1s.”
Grimm is already a known commodity around the country with offers from Pitt and Virginia. He is also confident that Penn State, Alabama and Virginia Tech will offer soon.
One school that Grimm is paying a particular interest in is Penn State, who his uncle, Matt Fornadel, started for over three seasons in the mid-1990s.
“I hear from Penn State a bunch. I am going to go down there for a junior day,” he said. “I talk to their coaches once or twice a month and get mail at least once a day.”
Grimm said he would attend Pitt’s junior day on Feb. 2. He is not sure when Penn State’s junior day is in February but he’ll be there too.
