Florida LB headed to the Big Ten

Three-star outside linebacker Rayfield Dixon (Loxahatchee, Fla./Seminole) committed to play for Minnesota, according to reports.

The 6-foot-3, 192-pound senior officially visited the Gophers on Dec. 14. He also made officials to Purdue (Sept. 28), West Virginia (Oct. 19), Louisville (Dec. 7) despite not having an offer from the Cardinals, and Bowling Green (Jan. 11).

Florida International, Georgia State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi State, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, Temple, Tulane, Wake Forest and Western Kentucky were his other offers. Programs such as Miami (Fla.) and South Florida showed interest.

ESPN calls Dixon, "a very active linebacker playing from a two point stance on the line of scrimmage; his quickness, balance and agility make it difficult to get a hat on him. ... if a redshirt year isn't deemed necessary, early playing time is a possibility."

He displayed impressive athleticism this spring on the Nike Combine circuit, registering an electronically-timed 4.82 40-yard dash, 4.28 20-yard shuttle, 38.1-inch vertical and 98.88 SPARQ.

The Gophers have 15 players on board for 2013.
