Meander, White talk Washington State

Amarillo (Texas) Palo Duro teammates and best friends Montrel Meander and Charleston White have committed to the Cougars, according to multiple sources. Both players traveled to Washington State over the weekend for an official visit.

Meander, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound safety, also took officials to Texas-San Antonio (Nov. 9), San Diego State (Dec. 1) and Colorado State (Dec. 8). His other offers include Colorado, Houston, Navy, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas State, Texas Tech and Tulsa.

“I want to be a part of a turnaround and wouldn’t mind at all playing for Coach [Mike] Leach,” Meander told the Amarillo Globe-News.

White, a 6-foot, 165-pound receiver, selected Washington State over offers from Colorado State, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas-San Antonio and Tulsa. He visited the Lobos on Dec. 14.

“It’s beautiful up here,” he said of Pullman, Wash. “The chance to play in college with my best friend and teammate from high school makes it very special. This is huge load off both of our minds.”

Meander and White will be evaluated soon by ESPN.

Including their midyear additions, the Cougars have 28 players on board for 2013.
