Steve Addazio has his first big win at Boston College.
The first-year Eagles coach landed a commitment from 2014 running back Marcus Outlow (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) late Tuesday. Outlow confirmed the commitment in a text message to ESPN.com.
"I chose BC because, one, the academics are Ivy League level," Outlow wrote. "Two, the coaches really care about the type of person I am. They want to better me not just as a football player but also as a man."
The Eagles struggled to keep the region's top players from leaving the area under former coach Frank Spaziani. For Outlow, distance was a big factor in his decision.
"I love the distance," he wrote. "Family is huge to me and them being able to see games was a major reason I chose here."
Outlow, measuring 6-feet and weighing 190 pounds, is impressed with the plan Addazio has for his offense at BC.
"Coach Addazio runs the football," he wrote. "They also want me as the centerpiece as a freshman. Doesn't get better than that."
Outlow is the first commitment in the Eagles' 2014 class.
